Gilbert has received several awards including Distinguished Service Awards from the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association and the Nebraska Music Educators Association. Currently he chairs the Recommended Music List Committee for the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association.ĭr. He is a frequent guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States. He is also a contributing scholar to the series Teaching Music Through Performance in Band and a contributing author to the book The Art of Band Interpretation. He is the Director of Instrumental Music conducting the Doane Concert Band and Community/Concert Band and the Doane Tiger Pep Band. Gilbert has enjoyed the longest tenure (twenty-nine years) in the 128-year history of the Doane University Band Program.
